警方扫荡无招牌建筑赌网据点　捕111人多为高学历青年

（槟城12日讯）警方周三下午在市区展开大规模取缔行动，突击一间无招牌建筑物，揭发网络赌博据点，当场逮捕逾百名男女嫌犯，其中绝大多数为本地华裔青年。

据悉，警方于周三（12日）下午3时许，在加拉歪路、海干新路及车水路一带展开行动，在一座外观低调、未悬挂招牌的建筑物内拘捕111人，而嫌犯中仅2人为印尼籍，其馀109人皆为本地华裔男女。

消息指出，落网者多为20多岁青年，受教育程度普遍不低，不少人持有大专或大学文凭，却涉嫌从事网络赌博相关活动。

警方今日将所有嫌犯押往法庭申请延长扣留，以配合进一步调查，由于人数众多，警方动用2辆罗里及3辆客货车分批载送。

在法庭现场，嫌犯被分批带入乔治市地庭，其馀则在法庭外走廊等候，场面引起关注。

警方目前尚未对外公布更多案情细节，案件仍在调查中。
